The ALASCA Tech-Talks provide a platform to discuss projects that have the potential to improve digital infrastructures and cloud services, as well as use cases that rely on these infrastructures and services.
In January 2023, the online format (formerly GC-Tech Talks) moved to ALASCA and has now been hosted under the umbrella of ALASCA.
In the 1st round of the ALASCA Tech-Talks we will introduce Yaook in more detail. The open-source-based cloud lifecycle management tool for OpenStack and SecuStack is the first open-source project whose development was initiated and significantly driven by representatives of ALASCA. Further information on the talk can be found below:
"Yaook: Using Kubernetes for deploying OpenStack, a non-cloud-native application".
Jonas Schäfer (Cloud&Heat Technologies) & Ihtisham ul Haq (STACKIT)
In 2020, STACKIT and Cloud&Heat started to move their Infrastructure-as-a-Service stack to run inside Kubernetes on Bare Metal. This move was triggered by shortcomings of classical approaches to management of complex software and the desire to make use of the advanced features Kubernetes has for deploying, maintaining and running multi-component systems.
Yaook is the result. In this talk, we want to give you an idea why we chose this approach of using Kubernetes, what a Kubernetes Operator is and what it does, as well as practical examples of how it helped our daily business.
