ALASCA receives funding from the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA) to strengthen digital sovereignty in Saxony

ALASCA is pleased to announce a significant funding commitment of €734,000 from the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA). This support aims to drive the further development, piloting and dissemination of open source software and standards for cloud services within the Saxon ecosystem. The funding will be provided by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) as part of the innovation measures in accordance with the guideline for state technology funding and will run from November 2024 to July 2026. Up to five new positions will be created in this context, which are to be filled in the near future.

With the received funding, ALASCA will be able to enhance the competitiveness of Saxon companies through operational cloud technologies and reduce dependence on international providers. The focus is on promoting open cloud infrastructures, interoperability, and seamless data portability to avoid lock-in effects and strengthen regional providers. Furthermore, ALASCA actively involves regional organizations, universities, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and individuals in the development process. Through cooperation with the community, innovative solutions will be developed and open standards further advanced, providing broad access and strengthening digital sovereignty in Saxony.
