The Internet is a constantly changing and evolving infrastructure that is important for everyday life. In this presentation, we will give an overview of how the Internet works, who the different players are, and which components and protocols make it work. After setting the basics, we will focus on Internet Exchange Points, one particular component that is responsible for increased robustness and reduced delays. We will introduce the newly founded DD-IX Dresden Internet Exchange e.V. and explain the economic benefits that this Internet Exchange brings to Saxony.
