The podcast by and for the open source cloud community
What?
The ALASCA OpenSnac is our podcast by and for the open source community, in which we look forward to open, genuine and unscripted conversations with guests from the OpenStack, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure world. Or quite simply, as the name promises - open conversations about open cloud infrastructure.
You can always look forward to the release of a new podcast every quarter.
Why?
With the ALASCA OpenSnac, we want to create a space for real exchange in the DACH region and collect and share the broad expertise of our community in one place. We prioritise knowledge sharing and community networking.
Who?
The podcast is produced jointly by ALASCA and our member UhuruTec AG and is aimed specifically at the open source cloud infrastructure community. Here, developers, operators and interested parties talk about OpenStack, Kubernetes and modern cloud infrastructures.
Where?
In line with our values at ALASCA, we have deliberately implemented the ALASCA OpenSnac on an open source basis and without the use of proprietary software. Accordingly, we rely on open-source alternatives both for hosting via Castopod and in the listings (including fyyd.de and podcastindex.org). You can find and listen to the podcast on open podcatchers (e.g. Podverse, AntennaPod, Podcast Addict) or by subscribing to the RSS feed directly in the app of your choice (e.g. Overcast, Castro).
To subscribe to our ALASCA OpenSnac, you can simply copy the RSS feed and paste it into the podcast app of your choice.

Episode 02 “The Relevance of Open Source Organisations for Society, Business and Politics”:
Open source is no longer just about open technologies; it is about collaboration, trust, shared standards and, increasingly, economic strength, political shaping and digital sovereignty.
But what role do open-source organisations play in this? What impact can associations and foundations actually have? Why do companies join forces with others – some of whom are direct competitors – to champion open technologies? And what significance does open source hold for society and politics?
We’ll be discussing this in this episode of ALASCA OpenSnac with our two guests, who bring very different perspectives to the table:
Dr Kai Martius, CTO and member of the Executive Board of secunet Security Networks AG, offers the perspective of a technology company. Drawing on his own experience, he discusses the economic value that open source can offer, why companies open up projects and hand them over to collaborative structures, and what it means when a company-driven project becomes part of an open ecosystem.
Miriam Seyffarth, Head of Political Communications at the Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA), focuses on politics and society. She explains the role a trade association plays in representing political interests, why open source is relevant to digital sovereignty, and why a distinction should be made between an open-source foundation and an association such as the OSBA.
The central question is: what role can open source play in digital sovereignty and the future of the economy, politics and society in Germany and Europe?
This episode is for anyone who sees open source not just as a technology, but who wants to understand why it affects us all.
