Structure of the association

The governance model of ALASCA

For the successful establishment and further development of ALASCA, our governance model clearly and transparently defines the association's structure, as well as the various roles and the relationships among them. Below you will find a detailed presentation of the individual components.

Our Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors manages ALASCA with skill and passion and consists of three members: The chairman, the vice-chair and the treasurer, whereby the Board is always represented by two Board members at the same time. The Board of Directors is appointed by the General Meeting - always for a term of two years. The tasks of our Board of Directors include the admission of new members, the convening and preparation of the General Meeting, including the implementation of resolutions passed in the meeting, as well as the administration of the association's assets. It is also responsible for appointing the Marketing and PR Team and the Community Management.

Our members and the General Meeting

Driven by their enthusiasm for open source technologies, our members work together on digital sovereignty for Europe. They also form the General Meeting of ALASCA. The General Meeting is responsible, among other things, for amendments to the statutes, the election of the Board of Directors and the Technical Steering Committee and for setting membership fees. It meets at least once a year to discuss developments in the organisation and other matters and, if necessary, to pass resolutions on specific issues.

Legal entities (e.g., companies and other forms of organisation) as well as private individuals (i.e.: natural persons) who wish to support the association can become ordinary members. Supporting memberships in ALASCA are also possible. Every ordinary member is entitled to vote at the General Meeting and has one vote, while supporting members can participate in the General Meeting but are not entitled to vote.

Our Marketing & Public Relations

Our motivated Marketing & PR team gives visibility to ALASCA's mission and keeps interested minds up to date on all progress. This includes, among other things, managing our LinkedIn channel, preparing press releases and our quarterly newsletters, organising events and our ALASCA Tech-Talks as well as designing and managing the ALASCA website.

In addition, the team brings life into ALASCA's new open source projects by creating a visual identity. With attention to detail, the special characteristics of the project are captured and reflected, for example, in a logo and other identity components. This is always done in close collaboration with the project managers.

You can reach out to the team via hello@alasca.cloud for press enquiries at any time.

Our Community Management

In ALASCA, the community is particularly important. For us, the community does not only include the members and open source projects within the organisation, but also other projects and initiatives in the European open source landscape with which we collaborate. Our Community Management is therefore responsible for coordination and organisations tasks, for the dissemination of information and for the further development of the association on the community side.

Our Technical Steering Committee

At ALASCA, we develop operational open source technologies. Therefore, we have set up a Technical Steering Committee (TSC) for the technical management of the organisation. Among other things, the TSC is responsible for the development of an overall technical roadmap for the association (but not for the single open source projects) and oversees the technical alignment of the open source technologies being developed in ALASCA. The TSC is also responsible for accepting new projects - in particular for assessing and evaluating their suitability, whereby the Board of Directors retains a veto right.

The TSC consists of five members. The TSC Lead is appointed by the Board of Directors and is responsible for the coordination with the members of the Board. The remaining candidates are elected by the General Meeting for a one-year term with the possibility of re-election.

The first official election will take place in 2024. Until then the Board of Directors will act as provisional TSC.
